Sample Answer:

In today’s fast-paced world, the role of parents in nurturing their children’s learning and development is often debated. Some believe that reading and telling stories to children is essential for building a strong bond between parents and their offspring, while others argue that children should be independent in their reading and entertainment choices. In this essay, I will discuss both perspectives and provide my own opinion on the matter.

Those who advocate for parents reading and telling stories to their children argue that it creates a special bonding experience. By spending quality time together, parents can instill important values and morals through storytelling, while also improving their children’s literacy skills. Furthermore, it allows for open communication and strengthens the parent-child relationship, which is crucial for a child’s emotional and social development.

On the other hand, some believe that children should be able to entertain themselves and make their own choices when it comes to reading and watching TV or movies. They argue that this independence fosters critical thinking and decision-making skills in children. Additionally, it allows children to explore their own interests and preferences without external influence.

In my opinion, both perspectives have their merits. While it is important for children to have independence in their activities, including reading and entertainment, the value of parental involvement cannot be overstated. Reading and storytelling provide an opportunity for parents to impart important life lessons and values to their children in a way that is engaging and memorable. Furthermore, it allows for a strong emotional connection to be formed between parent and child.

In conclusion, while it is important for children to have some level of independence in their reading and entertainment choices, the benefits of parents reading and telling stories to their children are undeniable. It provides a valuable opportunity for parents to bond with their children and impart important life lessons. Therefore, I believe that parental involvement in this aspect of a child’s development is crucial and should be encouraged.
