Sample Answer:

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of an appropriate retirement age. The ideal retirement age varies from person to person and is influenced by a multitude of factors including health, financial stability, and personal preferences. However, I believe that people should be encouraged to remain in paid employment until they are at least 65 years old.

First and foremost, with advancements in healthcare and improvements in overall well-being, people are living longer and healthier lives. Many individuals in their 60s and even 70s are still physically and mentally capable of contributing to the workforce. By encouraging them to remain in paid employment, society can benefit from their experience, knowledge, and skills.

Furthermore, the rising cost of living and economic uncertainty have made it increasingly difficult for individuals to save enough for retirement. By extending the retirement age, people have the opportunity to continue earning and saving for a longer period of time, ensuring a more financially stable future.

Moreover, for many individuals, work provides a sense of purpose, fulfillment, and social interaction. By remaining in paid employment, they can continue to stay active and engaged in their communities, ultimately leading to a higher quality of life.

It is important to acknowledge that certain jobs may be physically demanding and unsuitable for older individuals. In such cases, flexible working arrangements, part-time employment, or retraining opportunities should be made available to accommodate the needs of older workers.

In conclusion, while the appropriate retirement age is subjective and depends on individual circumstances, I believe that people should be encouraged to remain in paid employment until they are at least 65 years old. This approach not only benefits the individual by providing financial security and a sense of purpose but also contributes to the overall productivity and diversity of the workforce.
